When clients hire you as their event planner, it means they believe in your vision and your values. It means they found someone who they can trust.
They begin to set their bars high and expect that you will deliver things to them the way they wanted.
But things don’t and shouldn't always go their way and this is where the conflict begins.
We have individual preferences. We all came from diverse background. Our ideas and interest may sometimes be poles apart.
There will be times when your client will refuse your advice and will end up pursuing his or her own or someone else’s advice.
You can’t let this happen. You need to be in control of the situation before anything blows up your face. You are the expert and you can’t let your clients drive their own path to disaster.
They need to trust you enough to drive their event safely because you know your way to it. But often times, clients can be difficult because it drives them nuts when things don’t go the way they wanted.
You need to let them know the importance of making the alternate decision and finding other options. You need to let them understand why you can’t risk taking the route they wanted – without offending them or making them feel like their choices and decisions are ridiculous.

#1 Make them trust and like You.
We all tend to listen to people that we like and trust.
There are people that are simply charming, adorable and easy to get along with. People with a positive mindset. People who can carry a good conversation and bring out the good in people.

When people like you, they tend to forget that they have different preferences than yours. Liking you is easily converted to liking your ideas.

What do they want? What do they need? What are they looking for? What upsets them? What frustrates them? What scares them?
Do they like hanging out in coffee shops or they enjoy the weekend at home watching re-runs of FRIENDS?
Knowing these things will give you an idea on how to deal with them. Most importantly, you will give them a feeling that you care about what they think. They will easily open up to you and trust you with bigger things because you value your relationship with them.
#3 Commit to them
When your clients see how committed you are to your craft, the more they will trust you with every step of the way.
They will even give you full authority in making decisions for them if they see how you devote time and effort to research the best materials, how you incorporate the latest trends and how much you immerse yourself with their vision.
It will be easier for you to change their minds and have them accept your ideas because they know that once you commit yourself in implementing something, you will go all the way to achieve great results.
